George - Doberman Pinscher

My name is George and I'm a Doberman Pinscher. I'm big but I'm very friendly and well behaved. I'm only about a year old. I don't know if I got lost or was dumped. The people who found me have put up posters but no one has claimed me, so now I'm looking for a forever home. I was very thin when i was found but now I've put on some weight.
I'm currently in Beitou, Taipei, and invite you to come see me.

If you are interested in adopting me, please contact Animals Taiwan at 02-28338820 or email inquires@animalstaiwan.org

URGENT VOLUNTEER HELP NEEDED

URGENT

VOLUNTEER HELP NEEDED

DURING CHINESE NEW YEAR!

2 OR 3 NIGHTS OKAY!

Dear All

For about 10 years I've been feeding two packs of strays (and two cats) in the XinYi Area.

Each pack has about five dogs. BUT NOW I NEED HELP, A VOLUNTEER(S) TO HELP FILL IN MY PLACE DURING THE CHINESE NEW YEAR.

I will be away nine days from (Sat) Jan 29th to Feb 7th.

Already I have an old Canadian educated HwaQiao volunteer BUT HE's 75 YEARS OLD and can't cope with everything. But he'll faithfully show up. Any volunteer woulb be doing the nitty gritty work (like chopping up the dog food or cutting the bones) he can't do.

Ideally, I would like two or three volunteers so that each one would just have to work two or three nights.

If you volunteer I hope that you can come out at least one eveing with me this week to learn the routine and the details.

THIS IS NO ORDINARY GROUP OF DOGS. THEY HAVE BEEN VERY SPOILED AND PROTECTED AND ARE AFRAID OF MOST PEOPLE.

LOCATION

There are two chief sites of work.... One on SungZhi Road near the Kuma Supermarket and the other at 4-4-South Village (Next to XinYi Elemenatry School). TIME: USUALLY FROM 8 PM TO 10:30 (but this will likely change according to when the shops are open during Chinese New Year.

CALL ME: Need more info? Like to volunteer? Or see the work this week? Then call me CURTIS SMITH at

Tel 0987670007 or (w) 2725-5200 x 2655

Thanks for your interest, Curtis Smith

Koala's New Roommate

Dear all,
Koala is an adult now, so we have moved him to another room where he is happier. This room is bigger than his previous one, and it gives him more space to run around. He loves to play with Janet, his new roommate (Janet is popular with all the male dogs in that room). He also plays with Nico. Please come visit Koala next time you visit the rescue center~ :)

Sophie's Skin Condition

Dear all,
Sophie is one of the dogs rescued from Prof. Jia's shelter. We are sad to report that her skin condition has gotten worse lately. So, we are going to take her to visit a vet who specializes in treating animals with skin problems (the one who treated Addie).

Sophie was extremely timid and scared when she first arrived at the AT rescue center. But now she plays with staff and enjoys being pet. Please come to visit her and keep her company when you have time:)

Please contact 02-2833-8820 or inquiries@animalstaiwan.org if you would like to spend time with Sophie, sponsor her, or adopt her. Thank you!

Ziva Has Finally Been Spayed

Dear all,

Ziva was finally spayed last week. She recovered quickly and began playing with other paw friends at the center. It is still okay for her to have her period though. She is getting more comfortable being around people. Our staff are training Ziva to walk on a leash every day and she is making a lot of progress. Please come to the center to see her and take her for a walk. ^ ^

Ziva is one of the puppies that we found who were suffering from terrible skin problems. She has improved a lot! Thanks to everyone for all the support you've given to Animals Taiwan. Because of you, we can continue to help poor furries like Ziva.

Please click on the following link to see Ziva 's rescue story: http://animalstaiwan.blogspot.com/search?q=ziva

Please contact 02-2833-8820 or inquiries@animalstaiwan.org if you would like to help Ziva or Animals Taiwan in any way. Thank you.

Bonnie - the Burmese Mountain Dog

Hi my name is Bonnie and I'm a pure bred Bernese mountain dog. I was spotted by a nice person wandering around the riverbank. I wasn't looking too good and the nice person decided to contact Animals Taiwan for me. Luckily Animals Taiwan is actually just around the corner from where I was found. It took them two days to find me as I was hiding in the long grass, but eventually they spotted me and tempted me with food. I came over and let them put a lead on me. However, when they started walking me back to the centre I got scared of the cars and had to be carried. I'm now safe and sound at Animals Taiwan.

I'm going to get a full heath check and be spayed as soon as possible. AT has scanned for a chip but none was found so it looks like I was dumped.

I'm only 3 years old and I'm very gentle and loving. I'm just a bit scared at the moment as I've been fending for myself out on the streets and I really wasn't used to it.

I'm now looking for a loving home. Please contact the people at Animals Taiwan at inquires@animalstaiwan.org or call 02-28338820

Yep Skal is in the news again, She's a popular girl!

Hundreds of dogs ranging from Airedale terriers and Akitas to Welsh corgis took over Xinyi District last weekend for the sixth annual Taipei Pet Carnival (台北寵物跨年嘉年華).
About 90 companies and organizations were represented at the event, including about 30 animal advocacy groups. The Taipei Pet Carnival, which bills itself as the largest outdoor pet event in the country, was launched in 2006 by Wawa Public Relations (Wawa 國際公關) and is held outdoors every year at the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi (新光三越) complex.
“Our goal is to let people and their animals have a day of fun together,” said Taipei Pet Carnival chief executive officer Chang Ching-lin (張靖霖). “In Taiwan pets don’t have a lot of opportunities to go out into the community.”
While canines were the most prominent of the carnival’s four-legged attendees, some rabbits and good-natured cats turned up. The pet products and services offered ranged from organic food and gel breath fresheners to studio portraits and neon hair dye.
Twenty-seven competitions included beauty contests, a dog Olympics and a rabbit show.
But while some pets were being spoiled by doting owners, others were looking for “forever homes.”
These included Skal, a beagle rescued by Animals Taiwan (台灣動物協會) after being injured in a road accident. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, Skal eagerly sniffed visitors and chased after other dogs, including Gina, another Animals Taiwan rescue whose front paw was amputated after being caught in an animal trap.
The group needs homes for 60 to 70 animals, but they are careful to find the right match, volunteer Michelle Lin (林青宜) said.
“We’ll have the dog meet the entire family first and make sure they are compatible,” she said. “We don’t want them to end up feeling like having a pet is a burden.”
The Taiwan Homeless Bunny Protection Association (台灣流浪兔協會), which set up a booth at the carnival for the first time this year, also seeks responsible pet owners.
Founder Liao Shue-ping (廖雪屏) said that the organization anticipates an increase in abandoned rabbits after the Lunar New Year

Please Adopt PoPo~

Update on Addie’s Skin Condition

Hello, my name is Addie.

I hope you can still recognize me, because my fur has started to fall out again.

Whenever the seasons change, my fur falls out. It’s kind of a bummer.

It’s not easy for a handsome guy like me to face the world without enough fur.

So, the vet recommended I start having baths again.

I know I'll have my handsome mug back soon, I just need to be patient.

If you have time, why not stop by the rescue center for a visit?

Please come and visit me...with or without fur~I love visitors!

Yours,
Addie

The great success of 2011 Pet Festival for Animals Taiwan

The 100 years of Taiwan 2011 Wawa pet festival was a great success for Animals Taiwan.
It was cold and a bit wet but our fantastic volunteers worked hard to raise money and sell our merchandise and also helped spread the word about adoptions and how to help the strays of Taiwan.
Over the two day event together we raised over $35,000.
Also a big thank you to Michelle who came along to sell her delicious home made treats and helped raise more money for AT.
We are so grateful to have so many fantastic volunteers willing to take time out on their weekends to help us deliver and pick up merchandise, transport doggies and help sell merchandise and promote AT.
Also a big thank you to Carol who got up on stage a very short notice to talk about AT and what we do.

This is a great start to 2011!!

Leo needs a home~:)

Hello! My name is Leo. I'm still a young little boy. I had a car accident and got severely injured. Nobody helped me at that moment, but I didn't give up my life and I've been trying hard to survive with a broken leg. A few days ago, a kind person found me in the street at night and took me to a vet. Despite my damaged leg, I still love to play, run around or jump up and down. I'm very affectionate and am looking forward to finding a person to bring me home.

Please contact petite_kee@hotmail.com or 0912275103

can't wait to meet you all!:)

Skal Appears in the Jan. 9, 2011 Edition of The Liberty Times

Skal is in the news with a new star!

CNR Hsin Tien

Hi everyone,

After we found 11 puppies in the moutain, ( we are now trying to find homes for them. Please contact us if you can adopt or help.) Today, on a cold and wet morning, I set out to catch 3 female dogs. However, I only got one. ( I got lost in the mountains and got far too much exercise).

Where Andrea was feeding the dogs (and a feeding mama) there were also 3 female puppies and 2 male puppies
1 female was caught today - very friendly

1 female puppy still needs to be with her mom. She's very friendly and we will get her after Chinese New Year.
1 female looks like she's feeding puppies but haven't found the puppies, we will also get her after Chinese New Year. She's also very friendly.

2 males - they were a bit scared when we came close to them but they aren't agressive

Further down the mountains, there was a larger pack of dogs by the driveway. There were about 6 females 3 males (There shoule be more but I didn't see them today.)

Small white fluffy - lost one of his legs from an animal trap
female small white fluffy - not sure but i think is a female
3 puppies 2 black 1 white about 2 months old all female
large brindle male very friendly
black female - puppies mother
black/white long haired - think is male
white female - leg was caught in a trap already fallen off

These are the ones I saw today but Andrea told me there should be more. I want to get them too after Chinese New Year. I've already booked with Dr Lin (10 dogs) but I'll need another car as mine won't have enough space.
They all came out today but I can only touch the male brindle.

if you can give us any help, please contact 02-2833-8820 or inquiries@animalstaiwan.org

Thank you for your support :)

LongJohn got his new sweater~

Hello, my name is Long John. I was laid up in the hospital for a few days. The cold weather made me so weak that I couldn't even walk. But things are looking up, because now I'm cruising around in a padded vest. I don't handle the cold very well, so Xiao Huei was kind enough to give me some new threads. The vest is pink, but I don't mind. It's nice and warm!

I'm glad I was rescued and brought to the AT rescue center. I don't know how many other animals are out there sick like me, out in weather so cold they can't help but shiver.

Please continue to support Animals Taiwan. With your support, Animals Taiwan can devote all its time and energy to improving the lives of animals like me. Please contact us at 02-2833-8820 or adoptions@animalstaiwan.org for more information on how you can help.

If you would like to know more information about Animals Taiwan, please contact 02-2833-8820 or email us at adoptions@animalstaiwan.org

Once again, thank you for your support!

Eleven Puppies Available for Adoption

It’s Raining Puppies! Eleven Puppies Available for Adoption

We found these 11 puppies in the hills around Xindian.

(We later discovered that in addition to these 11 puppies, there was also a female who had just given birth, but we couldn't find her puppies.)

We hope to find homes for these little guys soon. In this area, two dogs have already lost a leg each to gin traps.

These 11 pups are barely one month old—they are pudgy little fur balls full of vim and vigor.

Please contact us at 02-2833-8820 or adoptions@animalstaiwan.org if you would like to adopt one of these cuties.

If you can't adopt one, please try to put out the word that they are looking for good homes. Thank you.

The pups are still in Xindian, please feel free to come visit them.

There is 1 black and white (male), 4 brown (3 male & 1 female), 2 black (1 male & 1 female), 2 brown and white (1 male & 1 female), and 2 red (1 male & 1 female).

The puppies' mother is about 12 kg, so the pups will probably grow to be about the same.

We will be responsible for spaying and neutering the puppies, so there is no need to worry about them going into heat.
