Oreo got hurt.

Somehow Oreo got a big cut on her body. She was taken to the vet to have stitches. It might because of the old fence that used already over than 3 years. We immediately checked around the bamboo garden but we found nothing. We will put more attention to observe the bamboo garden.

A Hot July at Animals Taiwan

The month of July has been hot! Hot! Hot! But that hasn't stopped us. We have been busy with rescues and adoptions. Our Rescue Centre staff have been working over time trying to get our "more challenging" dogs into forever homes.

Rescues
Freeway was found on a freeway (I think you guessed that already) and looked like he had a hernia. An x-ray showed that he had no damage to his bones and now he only has to grow big and strong so he can undergo the surgery at a later stage since to remove the hernia on his rear leg. He is currently recuperating at the vet and will be ready to go to his forever home once the surgery is completed.
A kitten who was part of a CNR project was taken in as the volunteer doing the CNR felt she was too young to be roaming the streets. She is 7 months old. Her sibling was bitten by dog and had to undergo surgery. She is currently in foster care and we hope to find her a loving home soon.
Due to the passing of Prof Ja, over 200 dogs were left homeless and without care. Animals Taiwan offered to help. Dr Lin who was in charge of the relocation of these dogs and the medical care advised us to wait until they had received medical care and were in better health before taking any. We were originally only to take 5, but we added one more, Lusan, as she stole our hearts away. So we now have 6 new doggies at our centre, Anna, Foxy, Ika, Sophie, Viva and Lusan. All female dogs. All of them except for Lusan are very wary of people and will take time to be rehabilitated before they will be able to be placed in forever homes.
Dumbo the kitten was rescued by a volunteer and has been fostered by her until now. She was hit by a car and was very afraid of people. Her foster mom has done a great job of rehabilitation and she is now looking for a forever home.
Danica was found on the side of the road with a terrible skin problem and extremely dehydrated. Her eyes were glued shut due to so much mucus. On inspeciton at the vet's we noticed she had 4 large bit marks on her rear end. Two of the puncture wounds were infected and found to be full of maggots. Her rear end was also full of pus due to infection. Danica has been resting and recuperating at the vet's and is now in a foster home. Once she is fully recovered she'll be looking for a forever home.
Ziva who is Danica's sister was finally captured the following day after Danica. She also has a terrible skin problem and was also dehydrated. Luckily she seemed to have more energy than Danica and she had no wounds or other problems. She has been recovering well and will be placed in a foster home until she is fully recovered when she will also be looking for a forever home.
CNR
This month we have continued with the cat CNR from last month and have caught two more cats, both males. We will continue until all the cats have been de-sexed.
In the mountain area of ShenKeng, a volunteer and the staff from Dr Lin's have been working very hard to capture all the dogs and get them de-sexed. There are a total of 14 dogs in this area, 5 female and 9 males. 2 of the females have already been spayed and 4 of the males. This month we only managed to catch an injured male who had been hit by a car. His bones had already started to grow back so there was no possibility of surgery. However, he was noticed to have a hernia which was removed. He has also been neutered. We will continue to try to catch the rest of the pack so as to insure no more puppies are born into this area.
Adoptions
Ginger the cat who came back to us from her first adoptive home sick has now gone into a forever home. Her new owners love her very much and have promised never to give her up.
Lulu our little Schnauzer has finally been adopted into a great home. We have had some great photos and reports from them. Seems she settled in within minutes.
Eric has also gone to a loving home. We were worried about him as he is a very large dog and not so young any more. However, his new owners fell in love with him and he's happy in his new home.
Cheetah the little kitten found a couple of months ago has now gone to her forever home.
Arnold had gone on a try out. His new potential owners also want another dog and will come back to see which dog will suit them and their family.
As always with all our rescues we never put a dog or cat to sleep unless the animal is suffering greatly with not much chance of recovery. We will always do our best to make sure every animal is given the best treatment and best opportunity to live a happy and loving life.

We are able to continue these rescues and adoptions thanks to your generosity.
If you would like to be kept up to date with stories and photos on our progress you can now check out our blog ; http://animalstaiwan.blogspot.com/
Please continue check out our webpage and pass it on to any friends or family members. There are always some wonderful dogs up for adoption, so if you have any friends or family interested in adopting, please show them our website. www.animalstaiwan.org
Remember Adopting saves lives! Please educate those around you to get their animal de-sexed and micro chipped to help decrease the stray population.

A brave warrior , Caramel

Caramel finished her bladder surgery in July. This is her 6th surgery since the car accident.

Although Caramel tends to leak when she urines, there is no blood in her urine. Caramel is a super duper brave puppy that is very energetic even after her surgeries. She likes to play other doggy patients that come to see the vet.

Ever since Caramel was rescued, she has problems with her bladder and anus. If we weren’t informed about Caramel in the first place, we do not know what her life would be like…..she will probably be in heaven now. We thank all the supporters out there. If we didn’t have your support and generous donations, we wouldn’t be able to rescue and treat such adorable dogs like Caramel, nor could we be able to continue this rescue centre to care Caramel. Moreover, we would not be able to find a foster home like Ms. Lin to take care of Caramel and provide her a better loving environment.

This organization needs your continued support to provide a more caring and loving place for animals like Caramel.

If you would like to give your love to Caramel , you can try our sponsorship program.

If you would like to find out more information about our sponsorship program, please contact us at

Once again, we thank you for you kind generosity

Furries' "Daddy" at Animals Taiwan rescue center.

Joey was interviewed by CNA news ( The Central News Agency )

Most people may find this kind of incessant barking annoying -- but not Joey Yang. To him, this is the sound of his furry charges talking to him.

The 35-year-old is a staff member at Animals Taiwan -- an animal rescue center in Taipei. Joey is a big animal lover who takes care of more than 70 stray dogs and a handful of cats. Although the job is a challenging one, for Joey it’s a dream come true.

Prof Ja's shelter dogs to AT

As promised we followed Dr Lin's instructions and waited for Dr Lin and his staff to treat the dogs at Prof Ja's shelter. Once the dogs had received treatment and were improving, Dr Lin allocated 6 dogs to us. These six dogs are now at our rescue centre. They are now receiving good nourishment and any medical treatment they may need. These dogs are well on their way to recovery and are looking for forever homes.
We are also looking for volunteers to help with these dogs. Because they have been kept at Prof Ja's shelter for so long they are not very sociable with people and need to be socialized and trained. If you have a couple of hours a week that you could spend with 1 or 2 of these dogs, taking them for walks, brushing them, and just generally giving them love, please contact our rescue centre 02-28338820 or inquires@animalstaiwan.org.

How we saved and healed Happy.

Happy was found a MRT JianTan Station with broken leg/bones...

As he was scared that time, he tried to bite the AT people when he saw everyone trying to catch him [however, that's animal's first extinct when they are hurt.]
That time, his bones were badly broken and had skin problem,
he was sent to the vet emergently, and a long steel was installed into his leg.
This is the photo of him in AT after 2 days at the vet:

Because of his skin problem, he needs to be under the sun at all time
Cause he doesn't let people walk him with a lead, when it's sunny, AT's stuff would take his whole cage out and let him be under the sun,and take him in when it starts to rain, after a while of sun bath, his skin problem was healed :) his leg has been in operation and after 2 months' rest and going back to the vet, his recovery was too well, his bones in the legs now look bended, however, it's normal.the photo doesn't look "well" but the recovery is good and his walking skills won't be affected at all.
my leg will be bended like this~

my leg will be bended like this~

next step will be after 4 months till his bones are fully grown,
another operation will be operated and the steels could be taken off, this is his photo from a few days ago, Happy doesn't hurt anymore and seems happy.

Happy will be resting in AT, AT will try our best to find a warm and lovely home for him forever.
AT is continuing saving and adopting animals
because we don't have enough funds/ volunteers/ staff and informations, we need your support and help
doesnt matter if its money or adoption
AT will be able to help more animals, like Happy, who's been badly treated.please contact AT on 02-2833-8820 for more information.

Thank you!

Dearest Fellow AT Volunteers,

A heartfelt thank you to everyone that helped to raise donations, and promote adoption at Pets Show Taipei 2010!!!!

Armed with 2 donation boxes, pamphlets, water (to stay hydrated), and huge smiles, we raised a combined total of just over $19,000 from Friday - Sunday.

We couldn't have done this without your effort to talk to almost everyone who tried to past through the entrance way, or approach shoppers inside the exhibition. It wasn't an easy task to ask for donations especially when everyone was hurrying to get inside to shop for their pet and get out of the summer heat, or inside already shopping and couldn't be bothered to stop in a sea of ppl to listen to you.

Your efforts have contributed to helping the costs associated with the welfare of stray animals.

On behalf of all our furries - Thank you!
I look forward to keeping in touch with you for future events!

Buddy and Cutie at their sweet home

They both look so happy :)
please take a look of the photos that their "father" took for them.

URGENTLY need foster home for Danica (puppy) to recieve treament.

While going to feed two puppies in her neighbourhood, a volunteer noticed 2 puppies by the side of the road. She stopped immediately and tried to catch them. She caught one, Danica. The other rushed off into the bushes. Danica was rushed to the vets as she had terrible skin problems, was dehydrated and her eyes were closed up due to mucus. On inspection at the vet's it was noticed she had 4 large bit marks on her rear end. Two of the puncture wounds were infected and found to be full of maggots. Her rear end was also full of pus due to infection. She has received a jab to help with the infection and all her wounds have been washed. She has also received treatment to help with her skin condition.Danica will need constant care until her wounds close and her skin gets better. She is currently staying at the vets but can’t stay there for too long.
Do you have room for this little girl? It is better if you have no other pets and can help her to clean her wounds and give her weekly baths to help her skin condition.
If you can help please contact Liza@animalstaiwan.org. All she needs is love and attention to recover and become a beautiful little girl. Please open your heart and home to this little girl and she will be eternally grateful.

Missing Harry

Beloved Harry wassadly spooked by the fireworks at Canada D'eh, and he is still missing. He was last seen at the Longhorn Bar & Grill just south of the mainbeach. He is most likely hiding near there, or by the Canada D'eh ...venue, or on his way back to Taipei. If you happen to be in the area, please keep your eyes open for this wonderful loving animal. He respondsto "Harry", followed by "good boy" will ease his fear. He will not bite. Food would be a good way to lure him into capture. Please call Greg at 0911 284 334 if you see him or have any information that may be helpful. Thank you very much. Any efforts are greatly appreciated.

Sparky's recovery from eye ball removal sugery.

photo notes :: Sparky is curious playing with the phone.

Sparky's recovering very well after both of his eyeballs were removed during sugery last month.

(to see Sparky's rescue story : http://www.wretch.cc/blog/animalstw/32417886

He already is very brave to jump up and down from the cages and furniture in the staff room.

He no longer needs to wear his cone, and now he doesn't have the discomfort that his eyeballs were causing him. He is now more playful than before.

Please watch the film ( Sparky gave himself a bath only a few days after the sugery.)

Need your help in many ways.

Hi,

You may or may not know that i recently came across 6 puppies on my mountain. 3 female and 3 male. They are currently just over 2 months old. THey have recieved their 1st vaccination and i will be taking care of their other vaccinations and de-sexing.

I have been contacted by a friend in Vancouver who wants to adopt one of them and has found homes for 2 more. I'll be sending the females to her.

Here's why i'm sending you this email. Please see if you can help in any way.

1. We need a passenger to Vancouver direct from Taiwan between 5th-30th august flying with China Airlines or EVA air

2. We need donations to help pay for the flight, crate, etc (my friend in canada is also collecting money). Any extra money will of course be donated to AT. I will be keeping a record of all expences and donations and will make it public on Facebook.

3. Homes in Taiwan for the remaining puppies. Of course i would prefer to home these puppies in Taiwan, but it's not that easy. However if you have friends or friends of friends who have an interest in adopting puppies please let me know. There are 5 more somewhere on my mountain but the 2nd mother has hidden them well.

so please help in whatever way you can, posting on your facebook account, emailing friends or just asking around. The two most urgent are the flights and homes.

Thank you for any help you can give.
( please contact 02-2833-8820 or <liza@animalstaiwan.org> if you can help in anyway. )

Please give a home for Pandy. ( from Mayumi )

My friends just found Pandy lost and wandering in the streets of Taiwan with an open wound on his right leg.

PANDY is friendly to people, medium large size and not neutered yet. He is quite skinny now but the vet said he is a healthy dog.

* My friends can not keep PANDY as they already got too many dogs all picked up from the streets.

Please contact me if you can help PANDY email: mayumi@animalstaiwan.org 0910-221-501

Steinly's new room, new roommates.

Steinly was rescued because of his unusually big tummy. After his examination, it was found that he had very serious heart worm disease, so it was the water in his belly making it so big.

After the heartworm treatment and several minor surgeries, where the vet made a hole and took the fluids out of his abdomen, he survived and belly went back to normal. In the beginning, he bit people, but that might just have been because he was suffering from a lot pain. When his health improved, he felt much better, and he even showed progress, becoming friendlier with staff and the volunteers. He is now very affectionate, just like a kid.

When his disease became stable, it was time to go out to live with other dogs. We were quite nervous because he was not a good-tempered dog in the beginning, and he fought with others. So we were very, very careful to arrange his move, afraid of any new fights.

Fortunately, the work of changing his room only took a week. We only tried one room, and all the dogs seemed to get along very well. ( not every dog does so well when changing rooms.)

Steinly lives with Wendle now. He is doing incredibly well with others. He never fights with his roommates ( even Wendle , who likes to bully others very much, but never even tried to bully Steinly ). Although Steinly doesn't play with his roommates, we can tell he likes his new room.

Steinly is a very nice big boy and likes exercise. He also likes to sit with people enjoying the sun. He is here at the center. welcoming you to take him for a walk.
