Jackson and Simba at foster home.

Dear all, Jackson and Simba went to foster home few weeks ago. There are some photos of them in the foster home.
=====================================================
Jackson: Simba, Let's go..
Looking around the place.
Simba was feeling comfortable and sleepy.

The letter from foster mom , Salena .

Smart Coco ( training film )

Hi all,

This is a film taken while Coco was training. We put the cookie on Coco's nose and we told him not to eat it. He is very smart and knows what he should do. He eats the cookie when we say Yes.

A Wish for Otis

2010/03/10 -- A wish for Otis
=============================
Warning: The following photos may be disturbing.
Otis lost the paws on his hind legs after getting caught in a gin trap. He has also become blind, although we have not yet determined the reason he lost his sight.

Two weeks ago, someone spotted Otis dragging his injured and bloody body down the road trying to beg for food. A kind Samaritan had been feeding Otis for the past six years, but was never able to catch or pet him.

On March 8, rescuers finally succeeded in catching Otis with a net. Otis was treated and had his legs bandaged by the vet. He is now recuperating at the Animals Taiwan holding center. Otis is frightened of people, so it must be difficult for him to have the bandages on his hind legs changed every day. Otis must be in a great deal of pain but we hope that his treatment will be successful. We hope that one day soon Otis will be like Judy, a carefree spirit who runs and plays with the help of a wheelchair.

◎Mustard stepped on something and has developed a sore on his paw. Please clean the sore daily and check his cage to make sure there isn’t anything lying around that might injure his paw.

◎Yoyo came back to the holding center. She needs to have medicine applied 3 times a day, have her bandage changed, and needs help urinating. We also need to write down her medical records.

◎Joey went to the vet today to learn how to administer an IV drip. Joey will help Long John, who needs to go on an IV drip every day to replenish fluids.

(Long John, Shoey, and Xiao Huang )

◎The cat which was rescued because of an injured tail has a new name, President. He is terribly afraid of people, so once his tail has healed, President will be neutered and released back where he was found.

◎Skal had a busy day! She was measured for her wheelchair and had her vaccinations.

◎While Lusan was collecting the dog bowls today, Seoul snuck up and peed on Lusan’s pants. You’re a naughty boy, Seoul!

◎The vet said that Yoyo is still not doing well. She needs to stay at the animal hospital for at least another week.

2/1

◎Long John’s condition has gotten worse. His mouth has become inflamed and it bleeds. The vet said we need to make sure he drinks 800CC of water every day, otherwise his kidney disease will become worse. If he looks weak or acts sluggish, we need to rush him to the vet ASAP. He’s currently staying in the office so we can keep an eye on him around the clock.

◎Sparky went to Stone Animal Hospital (世東) for the FIV and FeLV test. Great news, Sparky tested negative for feline aids!

◎May’s hernia has grown much bigger. We have to take her to the vet first thing tomorrow.

Urgent need of homes ( Chihuahuas )

Animals Taiwan is in urgent need of homes (permanent and foster) for small breed dogs.

Last year Animals Taiwan investigated a complaint against a man believed to be breeding small dogs from his back yard. On investigation it seemed this claim was true. Over 20 dogs were found to be kept in small cages without fresh water and the cages were rusty and rarely cleaned. The dogs had spent all of their lives in these cages and were unsocialized. None of the dogs had been de-sexed and most weren’t chipped or vaccinated. The man claimed he wasn’t breeding but when a female came into heat he put a male in the cage with her to “calm her down” and sometimes accidentally she became pregnant. He also said that he wasn’t selling the animals, but if people took them they would give him a “Hong Bao” (red envelope containing money). After contacting the government, TMAIH, the man, Mr Ong ( 翁先生), was given a warning to improve the conditions of the animals and to get them vaccinated and chipped. Animals Taiwan was able to convince him to hand over 8 of the dogs which included 3 puppies.Animals Taiwan was fortunate enough to be able to get all 8 dogs adopted in a short period of time.Animals Taiwan was recently informed that Mr Ong was continuing to breed the remaining dogs and their living conditions hadn’t improved. The TMAIH was contacted again and an investigator was sent to the scene. There are now 35 small dogs kept in the same conditions as before. Most of these dogs have had their vocal cords cut as the neighbours complained about the noise. They have lived their entire lives in these small, dirty, damp cages and have still not been de-sexed or vaccinated. Mr Ong has agreed to hand over most of the dogs to Animals Taiwan for adoption. Animals Taiwan is continuing to work with TMAIH to insure that the remaining dogs will not only be kept in better conditions but they will also be de-sexed and vaccinated to insure that Mr Ong is unable to continue to breed these poor little animals. Monday March 15th Animals Taiwan will be going to pick up between 10-15 of the dogs to be de-sexed and vaccinated. We are asking for people to come forward and help with re-homing of these animals. Once these 10-15 are re-homed we can then get more out of these terrible conditions and get them to a better place. The dogs are aged between 1-4 years old. They will be vaccinated and de-sexed before re-homed (either to permanent homes or foster homes). Please contact Liza@animalstaiwan.org 02-2833-8820 if you can help in any way.

Please give Birch a home!

My name is Birch. I come from a family of seven. 2 of my sisters and 1 of my brothers were adopted into loving homes and 1 of my brothers went missing. That left 3 of us, me, Lily and Oak. A kind lady took care of us. We grew up in a tomb site. We had warm blankets, shelter and food to eat. We were regularly de-flea and kept healthy. As we got older we started to stray from the tomb. Our carer was worried about us, but we always came running at feeding time and stayed close to our mother. Then just before Chinese New Year we went missing. Our carer found two dead bodies and thought one of them was me. They were too deteriorated to see clearly. She was so upset but never gave up looking for my brother and sister. However, I wasn’t dead. I’d been caught in one of those nasty Jin traps and I was scared of all the fire works.
Today February 28th I appeared. My carer was taking her dogs for a walk and saw me. As soon as she called my name I came running. I’m missing half of my front leg now and I’m very hungry and dehydrated. My carer has taken me to her home and that is where I’ll stay until I find a permanent home.
I’ve had quite an exciting life up to now and I’m only 6 month old. I will have an operation on my leg on Tuesday and will be nursed back to health by my foster mom. Then I’ll be ready for adoption.

I’ve been neutered and I’m fully vaccinated. If you think you can give a home to a loveable, friendly, quiet, three legged dog, please contact liza@animalstaiwan.org or call Liza on 0932344687 or Rita at 02-2833-8820

Kiki's film.

Kiki's film. ( She is much better than before.)

Prayers for Sparky.

On a recent rainy day, we rescued a 6-week-old male kitten named Sparky.

Little Sparky was crying on the road.

After taking a closer look, we realized that both of his eyes were badly infected.

We rushed him to the animal clinic but the vet couldn’t be sure if Sparky would ever be able to see again.

We plan to take him to an eye specialist.

As long as there is a chance to save his sight, we won’t give up.

Skal's story

I am a young Beagle but sadly, I don’t quite remember what happened to me and don’t have any record of my past. One day, out in the cold weather, a kind lady found me unconsciously lying on the road. She took me to the vet and there, they kept my body warm and treated me with some special medications. After few days I was able to eat and feel alive again. But… something was different. My legs! I couldn’t feel them anymore. I was paralyzed from the waist down.

The Vet and the rescuer were not able to keep me any longer and they wanted to put me down. But the kind lady who rescued me decided to call Animals Taiwan and here, they saw my eagerness to live and become the energetic Beagle I was born to be and they took me in. My paw-friends here said I am a sturdy, hardy little hound girl.

I am still in the quarantine room until I take all the necessary shots. The Vet also noticed that my legs are somehow looking stronger so they started to treat me with acupunctures and special shots between my paws. They hurt! I hate needles! But I know they are trying to give my legs back so I can again run around happily like a real hunter, full of stamina. I will also receive my wheelchair very soon! Hurray! I am just so happy to be alive! There are few paw-mates here in wheelchairs too. They told me they were hit by a car. Probably, that is what happened to me as well.

I don’t know exactly how old I am. I was brought to Animals Taiwan on Jan 15th 2010 so this is my new birthday date! This is when I first felt loved and cared. This is when I start living…..
