Hi all,
This is a beautiful dog found in a trap. She has 3 legs after the surgery. Ivy ( a kind lady ) rescued her and is fostering her. Now what she needs is a permanent home. Please contact Ivy at ivy_chuang@mail.sch.com.tw or call 0955180155, if you are interested in adopting her. She can also be adopted overseas.

KIKI
( The photos below are scary, please be aware. )
Kiki's Story
On December 15, Kiki was rushed to the AT rescue center by one of our volunteers, 范強森. Kiki was found near Taiwan University. Her eyes were stuck together and very swollen. They were still closed. We suspect that she was born this way and had never opened his eyes. She was very quiet.
We rushed Kiki to the vet, who removed the mucus covering her eyes, allowing her eyelids to finally separate. She could now open her eyes but they were still very swollen.
She looked like an alien.
The vet said that her eyes were beyond help. They would need to be removed when she was bigger and stronger. The vet prescribed some medicine to fight her constant eye infection and urged us to take good care of her.

After visiting the vet, we kept cleaning Kiki’s eyes. We painstakingly used moistened tissues to gently soften up the mucus that continued to ooze out. We gave her medicine, kept her warm, and just like a mother cat, we rubbed her bottom to help her go to the bathroom.
Day Two
Kiki didn’t poop for two days. We were really worried, so we took her back to the vet. This time, we took Kiki to the 士東 animal clinic, to a vet who specializes in kitten care.
The vet advised us to give Kiki a cone collar and prescribed some eye drops. The vet urged us to administer the drops as often as possible. The drops would soften the mucus and remove debris from Kiki’s eyes. As far as Kiki not pooping, we needed to spend more time massaging her.
Kiki was so tiny, we had a problem finding a cone collar small enough for she. So, we made one ourselves out of paper.
Day Three
Yeah! Kiki finally pooped! And it was a good one. Unfortunately, Kiki was able to wriggle out of her homemade headgear. We had to find something small enough for her to wear that would substitute for a cone collar, such as a swim ring.
Besides giving her medicine and constantly administering eye drops, we prayed for a miracle to save Kiki’s eyes. After every meal, we massaged her tummy. Even though Kiki was very sick, she still had a good appetite. During those first three days, Kiki was a good girl and ate all her food. She was showing us that she wanted to live.

After One Week
Kiki was pooping normally, but her eyes had not improved. We were going to Xizhi, so we took her with us. In Xizhi, Dr. Lin informed us that Kiki had a highly contagious herpes virus. Her eyes were seriously affecting her health. The most humane treatment was to end Kiki’s suffering, as this disease is highly contagious and could infect other cats at Animals Taiwan. The Vet recommended that we put Kiki to sleep. This brought tears to our eyes.
We contacted other vets about Kiki’s illness. Once more we asked for more details about Kiki’s condition from Dr. Lin and explained about her living situation at Animals Taiwan. Afterwards, Dr. Lin recommended that we have Kiki’s eyes removed because she was extremely contagious.
December 25
On Friday, Lusan took Kiki to the 全國 Veterinary Hospital (Yuanshan Branch) to see Dr. Wang. If Kiki’s eye infection couldn’t be treated, Dr. Wang said it would spread to other parts of the body, such as the brain. Kiki would be in even worse shape than she was now.
One of her eyes was in better shape than the other. Even if the infection were treated, the eye would atrophy on its own and would still need to be operated on.
Kiki tested negative for FeLV and FIV (feline AIDS and feline leukemia). If she could survive the operation, then she could live together with other cats
Dr. Wang said that although Kiki would have no eyes, she still could rely on her other senses, such as her ability to hear or smell. As long as care was taken to keep her living environment stable and not move things around, she could manage OK!
Kiki has a good appetite.
We hope that she will be able to pull through.
The vet warned that even if the operation is a success, it will be important that Kiki be well cared for and that she have a strong will to live. Otherwise, Kiki’s chances are not good.

1. The next time you visit, check out Shoey. He really likes Hobbit. They even give each other kisses!

2. Whenever someone enters Buddy's room, he likes to stand on the table and wave his paws at them. Sometimes when I bend down to pick up the dog bowls, he taps me on the head with his paw. (Hey, that messes up my hair!)

3. Addie was bitten on the face again. It’s so sad! (If you pet the right side of her face, she groans in pain.)

4. While Pat was drinking some water, Lulu ran over to see what goodies he was eating. Lulu got too close to Pat’s bowl and he bit her, giving Lulu a wound on the head. We gave Lulu a little haircut to make it easier to apply medicine to the wound. Now Lulu has a bald patch on her head. No laughing please!

5. Norton went for a run today. There was a little dog that tried to play with him, but Norton was startled and barked at him instead. He tried to be tough with the little dog, but he was trembling. Poor Norton is afraid of new dogs.

She said that Coco put on a great show,
and that the students were crazy about him.
He made a big impression on them.

P.S. Coco kept trying to kiss Faye!

Stevie's new hat.
Stevie is the only completely blind dog staying with us.
Today just was not his day.
This morning Lucie found that Stevie had caught one of his legs in some cloth.
When I went to check it out, Stevie was trying to free himself,
but just becoming more tangled.
Not only that, he was snapping at any dogs that came near him.
We calmed him down and then tried to untangle the cloth.
Finally, Lucie found a pair of scissors and just cut it.
Afterwards, Stevie was trembling.
Lucie said that Stevie was crying
So, I watched him,
and saw that tears really were running down his face.
It was heartbreaking...
Later, Stevie came to explore the office
He was very curious about the garbage can and stuck his head inside for a whiff.
When he pulled his head out, the lid was stuck around his neck. Then, he walked around with his new hat!

Paris Reunited With Her Owner!
Not long ago, Joey found Paris, a beautiful golden retriever. Now she’s back with her owner!
Joey was taking Paris for a check-up and asked the vet Paris’ age.
Just by chance, Joey checked to see if Paris had a microchip (She had been checked before but no chip was found...)
What do you know? She had a chip!
This beauty’s real name is White Snow,
and they call her Little Snow!
Her owner runs a home stay around Wulai and came right over to our holding center after finding out about Little Snow.
It turns out that she had been missing for months.
Surveillance tapes showed
that someone had whisked her away on a motorcycle.
Her owners were thrilled to finally bring their beloved dog home.
They kept asking her, “What were you thinking? You’re too trusting!”
The owner kept insisting on paying a "boarding fee" for Little Snowand invited us to be his guests at his home stay!
We’re so happy for them.
So, it pays to microchip your pets!
Joey said that raising the three dogs was “a sweet burden.”

New toilet for cats.
A new volunteer has joined us at the center,
she’s a U.S. trained veterinarian that specializes in cats.
While here on vacation,
she’s offered many suggestions on how to improve the cat room.
We’ve had a lot of questions for her, too!
She came up with a plan to fix the "smelly toilet" that we've had such a problem with.
She spent her own time and money to help us
and we can't thank her enough.
Now, the cat room has two large litter boxes.
I saw Simba, our three-legged cat, using them.
He was so happy, he almost stirred up a sandstorm!

Sucie and Susan's update
Here are some photos of Sucie. She is living with foster mom now.
Sucie's foster mom says that she couldn't believe that Sucie and Susan were born on the same day. Sucie is much bigger than Susan.
Susan now is staying at rescue center. She's got all her shots and is ready for adoption. She is still very playful. She likes to invite other dogs to play with her. NiuNiu likes Susan a lot. Today, Joey was giving Susan a nail cut for the first time.
Maggie's up date~

This is the up date from Maggie's mom !!!

She's doing really well, learning to sit, come and lie down. She doesn't always come, and mostly only comes to me rather than other people, but I'm sure she will start to trust more people over time. She has started playing now when we take her up on the roof, and loves the river outside our house. It's been great to watch her get more confident and happy.

Thank you so much Sarah !

XiaoLu's and his family

小魯實在是讓人超眼紅的啦~
牠的新家在花蓮
獨棟的建築
有很大的前後院
It really makes others feel so envious of such a wonderful home like XiaoLu’s.
He is living in Hualian, and even has a nice garden.
主人是來自英國
但在台灣也算是新住民了
主人之前在他原本的國家有二隻米格魯
也都是壽終正寢
XiaoLu’s papa had 2 beagle. They passed away because of old age. ( not sick.)
They made a decision to have dogs, because they love dogs and they know they have the right environment for them. Even though they found XiaoLu's imperfection, we still saw the sparkle in their eyes and we believe that XiaoLu found his real love this time.

Steinly
Steinly is a dog from Peitou. He has Dirofilariasis (heart worm). He also has a big, swollen belly and one eye looks like it has a Cataract. He was found lying on the side of the road, too weak to stand up. After medical treatment, he is doing much better and is recovering at the center. He will need medication for at least another two months.
