Rest in peace, Jilly

Jilly passed away last night in his sleep. Jilly was well cared for and loved by the rescue center staff and volunteers in the last few months of his life. Before he passed away, he had a good dinner and was in good spirits. Rest in peace, Jilly. We miss you.
Jilly was rescued from a car accident at Songjiang Road with multiple leg wounds. The vet estimates that Jilly is atleast 20 years old. Because of his old age, his teeth are extremely bad and will need to be pulled out. Jilly also has a very big hole in his mouth. He is now staying at the AT rescue center receiving special care. Jilly can no longer walk because of his age, so the center staff use a special harness to pick him up everyday to help him exercise and go to the bathroom.

AL 's happy new life

Al was suffering from canine distemper. He almost died, but he did his best not to let us down. Although he recovered from distemper, his brain was already injured by the disease, causing him to not walk properly. It really affected the chance for his adoption. But luckily, Faye, one of the very important people of Animals Taiwan, adopted Al last year. Al, who is now called Sal, has a very beautiful life now thanks to Faye's kind heart. I went to see Al at the end of last year, and my eyes filled with tears. This dog was no longer Al, he was now Sal. He was now a very happy, confident, strong dog. I can see how much love Faye gives him.

This is a letter written by Faye about Sal.
Sal ( Al) is doing extremely well. He's the funniest little guy. He has now learned to chase balls and can run after them in our yard. Problem is, he won't return them. Sal also likes to chase the other dogs, especially those who are smaller than he. He laughs all the time and wags his tail practically every minute. I really love that dog as does everyone else. What a personality.

Caramel's big sugery

Hi! do you remember our plump , cute Caramel ?

Caramel has already been fostered for almost a year. The love from her foster mom makes Caramel more beautiful. It is just like she is living in heaven now.

Caramel was rescued because her pudendum was out of her body. She couldn't pee by herself. She went through 2 very big pudendum surgeries but the problem was still there. Caramel couldn't control her pee so she leaked all the time and everywhere.

After consulting a lot people and going through a lot of reports, Caramel's foster mom, HsinYing, found a very professional vet in this field.

Caramel just underwent another big surgery. Thanks so much to foster mom HsinYing and her whole family for giving Caramel such wonderful care.

Before the surgery, Caramel suddenly kept having blood in her pee. HsinYing worried so much she even postponed the sugery to treat the bloody pee problem. Fortunatly, the blood problem got better after the treatment.

The sugery was sucessful. But the leaking pee problem still remains. The vet took the broken tissue from her bladder, which caused the constant infection. Caramel feels much better now.

But a comfortable life is still far for Caramel to go. Let's give Caramel our best wishes.

I wonder, is she too great or too blunt, this cute little baby? She still tries to steal food at every chance, glowing with joy, her face illuminated, and her nose always wet. Her nice personality gains every one's love. She always has a big smile whenever we visit the vet. Every vet and the staff say that Caramel is a very good girl. But when she is put on the examining table, she immediately becomes very serious, hiding her tail, shaking her legs... as if it were another dog there.

Lost Pepper

Rosanne and Rosy.

My name is Rosanne and I'm a pure breed Rottweiler. I was used for breeding so all my children have been taken away from me and sold. But then I was dumped on the street and had a mixed baby called Rosy. I finally have one of my children by my side. I don't want to lose Rosy so I hope a loving family will adopt us both.
I am about 2 years old, spayed and had my first vaccination. I've also been de-wormed and received flea treatment.
Rosy, my daughter, is a mixed Rottweiler. She is 4 months old (as of May). She has also been spayed, vaccinated, de-wormed and received flea treatment.
We are both very affectionate and well behaved. We both walk well on leads and come when called. We have had blood tests and are healthy.
We're looking for a loving home together so I can finally fulfill my dream of being a loving mother.
We are currently living at a recycling depot. A kind volunteer of Animals Taiwan is looking after us

Happy need your HELP

Happy, suffering from a broken leg, was rescued at noon today at Jiantan MRT Station. He is currently at the vet undergoing surgery for his leg. We are waiting for the vet to confirm if Happy's injury is due to a car accident or abuse. Thank you to Kate and Mrs. Tsai for reporting Happy and assisting us with the rescue. We have named him Happy hoping that he will be just that after his recovery. If you would like to foster Happy until he finds a permanent home, please contact AT

Judy's wheelchair

JudJudy's wheelchair had been broken for a while, so she couldn't drive around the yard greeting people. She borrowed Otis's but they are different sizes, so it just didn't work. Fortunately, the wheelechair company sent us replacement parts, so we could fix it for Judy. Now she is finally able to drive her red BMW around again. She's so excited to race around with Julian, and of course, to meet visitors and ask for attention.

Kissing game

While all the other dogs were having their afternoon nap, there were two dogs playing a "kissing game". It was Liberty and Mustard! Getting kissed by Liberty, Mustard looked a little bit shy, but maybe it was because we were watching. Mustard really gets all the attention from the ladies in his pen. Notice how their legs cross...^ ^

Two 2 months puppies need home.

Hi, I am Riot (on left) and this is my sister Roullette. We were playing rough and tumble in the middle of a busy street when we were picked up. We have been to the vet to get all of our shots and have been de-wormed as well, so we are stong and healthy now. We are also almost fully potty trained too! Though we would love to stay here with our awseome new parents () we can’t because of compund rules. I am very fun loving and love to play with a ball, my sister Roullette is a little more demure then me, that’s why she has a fancy name. She loves to sleep and eat. She is getting fatter every day. We love to play and learn new tricks and promise to be no trouble at all!

Dexter

This handsome dog just recently returned to Animals Taiwan. He had been fostered for over three years, and now that his foster family can no longer keep him, he is back again. So far he is doing great with the sudden change in surroundings.
Dexter is housebroken, so there will be no accidents at your home. He walks very well on a leash: he will not pull, and he follows your speed. He does like to be outside on long walks, but he is also quite content to be inside, enjoying people's company. He is quiet and has not barked or whined since his arrival. He does well with other dogs, showing no aggression. He is a very easy dog to keep as a companion.
If you're thinking about getting a dog, please consider bringing Dexter home.

Gov't should enforce the law banning animal traps: dog lover
TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The government must enforce an existing law banning animal traps as the devices are still continuing to injure animals and people, said a dog lover yesterday.

She said her fifth dog was injured March 7, and she herself was hurt last Friday, both in Taipei's Yangmingshan area.

“I'm really angry,” she told the China Post.

Poachers usually set up illegal animal traps in the mountains, including Yangmingshan, to catch wild boars.

Between July 2008 and July 2009, 141 cases of illegal animal traps were reported in Taipei, of which 98 resulted in trapped animals being amputated, according to figures from Animals Taiwan, a group devoted to caring injured stray dogs and cats.

“This is a dangerous situation since the traps could hurt not only animals but also humans,” said Angevine, who has lived in Taiwan for 35 years and currently keeps 18 stray dogs.

Two of her dogs had to have amputations after being caught in such traps.

Angevine, who held a press conference Thursday to call attention to the issue, suspects the actual number of animal traps is more than the one in the official statistics.

She said she could not understand the current purpose of setting the traps now that boars are rarely spotted.

She urged police to enforce the law by running more patrols to stop violators and remove the traps as soon as they are found.

Violators could be fined NT$15,000 to NT$75,000, according to the amendment to the Animal Protection Act.

As a democracy, the government should pay more attention to animal welfare as part of efforts to become a developed country, as animals are just as important as human beings, Angevine continued

Da NiuNiu was examined and diagnosed as having distemper. She is currently staying at the vet as she wasn’t eating and had difficulty breathing. This is a film taken while Coco was training. We put the cookie on Coco's nose and we told him not to eat it. He is very smart and knows what he should do. He eats the cookie when we say Yes.

Ms Brown found a lovely, new home.

Wags has gone to a foster home and his foster mommy will be working together with us to find him a great new home!.

Miruku has been adopted. Her family now spoils her rotten :-)

A Wish for Otis

2010/03/10 -- A wish for Otis

Otis lost the paws on his hind legs after getting caught in a gin trap. He has also become blind, although we have not yet determined the reason he lost his sight.

Two weeks ago, someone spotted Otis dragging his injured and bloody body down the road trying to beg for food. A kind Samaritan had been feeding Otis for the past six years, but was never able to catch or pet him.

On March 8, rescuers finally succeeded in catching Otis with a net. Otis was treated and had his legs bandaged by the vet. He is now recuperating at the Animals Taiwan holding center. Otis is frightened of people, so it must be difficult for him to have the bandages on his hind legs changed every day. Otis must be in a great deal of pain but we hope that his treatment will be successful. We hope that one day soon Otis will be like Judy, a carefree spirit who runs and plays with the help of a wheelchair.

◎Star was in a lot of pain because his jaw was so damaged and he was in the final stages of distemper. We decided the kindest thing we could do for him was to put him to sleep and end his suffering.

◎Susan’s new family is crazy about her. When they have time, they will come to the holding center to sign the adoption papers.

◎President’s wound has healed up nicely. He has been neutered, so we’ll return him to the area he was found.
